Title: Research Associate, Analytical Chemistry

PRINCIPAL RESPONSIBILITIES
We seek an enthusiastic, team oriented, problem solver to join our Analytical Chemistry group as a Research Associate. Key responsibilities include:

  • Utilize analytical instruments such as, but not limited to, GC-FID and GC-MS to analyze fermentation samples
  • Work in a high throughput environment, processing thousands of samples per week
  • Process large data sets using analytical instrument software and Microsoft Excel.
  • Interact with internal customers who rely on high quality data and quick turnaround time
  • Assist in the development and maintenance of automated methods and workflows

KEY REQUIREMENTS

  • B.S. in Chemistry or related discipline
  • 0-3 years industry experience
  • Hands on experience with analytical instruments including maintenance and troubleshooting; experience with GC-FID and/or at least one relevant field (GC, HPLC, GC-MS, LC-MS) desired
  • Understanding basic analytical method development/validation/qualification concepts
  • Ability to manage parallel workflows in a high-throughput environment
  • Attention to detail and excellent skills in record keeping/documentation
  • Critical thinking and ability to analyze data; ability to identify aberrant data and effectively communicate observations to management
  • Comfortable working in a fast-paced, dynamic environment
  • Ability to collaborate effectively with other team members
  • Eagerness and ability to learn and understand new concepts
  • Committed to safety in a laboratory environment

Supervisor: Senior Director, Molecular Biology

PRINCIPAL RESPONSIBILITIES
We seek an enthusiastic, team oriented, problem solver to join our Molecular Biology group as a Scientist. Key responsibilities include:

  • Developing tools through interrogation of WGS and transcriptomic data to enable engineering of platform organisms
  • Designing and executing on molecular genetic strategies to improve strain phenotypes including productivity, yield and production of novel molecules
  • Representing the molecular biology team in R&D and partner meetings by presenting data from routine experiments, development and qualification efforts
  • Working closely with strain and fermentation development teams to assess impacts of strain engineering on key performance metrics
  • Preparing and reviewing SOPs to document method development
  • Assisting in preparation of written examples for IP and regulatory filings

KEY REQUIREMENTS

  • 3+ years of industry experience or at least 4 years of post-graduate training with demonstrable complex problem-solving experience 
  • Supervisory experience highly desired but not essential
  • Experience with standard molecular biology/molecular genetic techniques
  • Experience with developing new, robust screening tools and marker-less transformation strategies desirable
  • Experience and expertise around the development of highly quantitative assays
  • Command of biochemistry principles and concepts
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills with scientific peers AND executive partners
  • Comfortable working in a fast-paced, dynamic environment and a genuine desire to both work at the bench and supervise others to drive projects forward
  • Committed to safety in a laboratory environment
  • Ability to manage large datasets and draw conclusions from them
