PRINCIPAL RESPONSIBILITIES

We seek an enthusiastic, highly motivated, and driven expert to oversee our procurement operations. The Procurement Manager will lead the purchasing process, from selecting suppliers to ensuring stock optimization, on production of products and operations for our growing organization. The Procurement Manager will work closely with product teams, scientists, and operations to understand the needs across the Company. This role enables constant delivery efficiency in a cost-effective manner through planning, forecasting, and maintaining proper inventory levels for chemicals, manufacturing, and lab supplies, as well as critical equipment. The successful candidate will have significant experience in supporting a high growth company, developing the necessary policies and procedures, and ensuring the implementation of a robust and compliant environment. This role will be responsible for  directing daily procurement activities in support of the Company’s mission critical operations. 

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Work closely with product teams, scientists, and operations to develop procurement/sourcing strategies that are inventive, cost-effective and promote scalability
  • Hands-on support of organizational procurement needs for Salt Lake City and Alameda sites, from order placement to maintenance/implementation of various procurement system applications
  • Monitor industry and marketplace experiences with procurement and supply chain infrastructures and processes
  • Source, engage, and grow base of suppliers and vendors for direct, indirect, or services procurement
  • Develop and maintain key vendor relationships with improvement initiatives and programs to secure advantageous terms
  • Perform risk management for supplier contracts and agreements
  • Work closely with Finance to scope, implement, execute, and maintain an automated system to support our procure-to-pay process
  • Own and manage all procurement related escalations
  • Implement cost effective target operating model
  • Drive continuous improvement, favorable pricing, and payment terms from suppliers and vendors
  • Own and manage purchase order process
  • Managing the procurement budget and promoting a culture of long-term saving on procurement costs
  • Accountable for building a strong safety culture and actively pursue it daily; identify unsafe behaviors and conditions and intervene to mitigate incidents

KEY REQUIREMENTS

  • Bachelor’s degree (or higher) in business, logistics, procurement, or supply chain management
  • Certified Purchasing Manager (CPM) certification is a plus
  • 3+ years of commercial experience in building, operating, and continuously improving procurement operations
  • Experience with chemicals, chemical handling procedures, and manufacturing equipment procurement required
  • Strong numerical and emotional acumen to manage costs, people, and processes
  • Demonstrated ability to review and negotiate contracts
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills
  • High level of approachability and customer service oriented
  • Ability to communicate and build relationships, both internally, across all functional organizations, and externally with suppliers and customers
  • Record of engaging and maintaining supplier relationships with thoughtfulness and consideration for all teams involved
  • Analytical, problem solving, and organizational skills required to identify and resolve issues
  • Strong strategic planning and crisis management skills
  • Ability to tackle and solve challenging start-up and scalability issues that require resourcefulness, creative thinking, and collaboration
  • Comfortable working in a fast-paced, dynamic environment; can pivot quickly and strives for continuous improvement
  • Committed to the highest standards for protecting confidentiality, data integrity and security
  • Willingness to travel up to 25% of the time, with frequent trips to vendors and our Alameda facility)
