PRINCIPAL RESPONSIBILITIES

We seek an ambitious, mission driven, creative problem solver who is excited to roll up their sleeves to join our team as a Logistics & Supply Chain Manager. Reporting to the Director, Platform Partnerships, this newly created position will be responsible for building and maintaining a supply chain for our chemicals, intermediates, materials, and ingredients initiatives. This role will oversee and execute on sample fulfillment, customer orders, inventory control, lot tracking, third-party warehousing, and shipping/receiving activities for a range of products and chemical intermediates. Additional duties include chemical procurement, document management, and 3PL oversight. Working closely with commercialization, finance, legal, and technical teams, this is a highly collaborative and impactful role with significant vendor engagement. It requires establishing trusting relationships with Checkerspot’s internal team and external parties to ensure logistical completeness, safety, accuracy, and timeliness. The successful candidate will be adept with strategic planning and tactical execution in a dynamic environment.


KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Own and manage sampling, order fulfillment, and commercial development processes, integrating information with finance, legal, regulatory, technology, commercial, and strategy teams
  • Own relationships with vendors and warehouses to procure, convert, store, and transport hazardous and non-hazardous chemical intermediates, materials, and ingredients
  • Collaborate with organizational leaders to define Supply Chain requirements, scope vendors, and implement processes
  • Implement and manage systematic digital solutions to track and ship chemicals, ingredients, raw materials, and products
  • Develop and run a document management system to track Safety Data Sheets and Technical and Product Data Sheets
  • Develop KPIs and reporting systems to provide logistics insights
  • Research 3PLs and other Supply Chain vendors and engage in RFP process to secure supply chain solutions
  • Provide insights into best practices and improvement opportunities for environmental sustainability across the supply chain, report on progress and opportunities to the senior leadership team
  • Track expenditures and identify and execute ideas to drive efficiencies, cost, and GHG savings
  • Contribute information on requirements, deadlines, costs, and GHG emissions for strategic planning and business case justifications
  • Accountable for building a strong safety culture and actively pursuing it daily; identify unsafe behaviors and conditions and intervene to mitigate incidents

KEY REQUIREMENTS

  • Technical background in Chemistry, Chemical Engineering, or Materials required
  • 5+ years of commercial experience in handling, ordering, and shipping of hazardous and non-hazardous chemicals 
  • Bachelor’s degree (or higher) in business, logistics, supply chain management, Chemistry, Chemical Engineering, or Materials, or equivalent obtained through experience desired
  • Experience managing domestic and overseas shipment of chemicals and ingredients, with solid understanding of safety, regulatory, and specific geographical compliance measures
  • Record of engaging and maintaining vendor relationships
  • Understanding of carbon accounting
  • Strong numerical and emotional acumen to manage costs, people, and processes
  • High level of approachability; ability to seamlessly work with internal and external customers to discuss new processes and articulate a clear vision for long term success
  • Ability to manage time sensitive competing demands while adhering to safety and environmental rules
  • Curiosity and drive to learn and build new business processes, with experience navigating unstructured business issues
  • Willingness to travel up to 25% of the time, with frequent trips to vendors and our Salt Lake City Design Lab
